S7-1200 are suited for applications with a low degree of automation. They are inexpensive and are characterized by their small and compact hardware design. They can communicate with Telecontrol control centers over various Telecontrol protocols using communications processors (CPs). This means that the advantages of the SIMATIC S7-1200 Basic Controller can also be used in the Telecontrol environment.

RTUs based on SIMATIC S7-1200 are ideal for small stations in Telecontrol applications, such as widely distributed sewage and water treatment plants, district heating networks, and in energy and traffic engineering.
